We’re back in the woodshed! WCM gave two performances and improvisation workshops in Sullivan County schools this school year. Andy Waggoner played a solo recital and worked with students in Fallsburg in October, and then he and Carrie performed and did a day of workshops with over 200 students in Liberty. The real stars at both schools were the students: fun, eager, and imaginative, they threw themselves into making music up on the spot, in the process learning to listen, accept each other’s ideas, and adapt, essential skills in any human relationship, musical or otherwise. Huge thanks go to Gary and Judy Siegel and the STEAM Fund, and to the faculty and staff at both schools for making all of this possible. Next season will see more school events, with more improvisation, as well as composition, performance and, who knows, maybe even opera! Stay tuned…
