Weekend of Chamber Music Celebrates its 10th Anniversary
The Weekend of Chamber Music opens its 10th Anniversary season with the first in a new series "Sunday Afternoons at Big Twig." The opening concert takes place on Sunday afternoon, at 3 p.m. March 7 in Big Twig Studio near Roscoe.
The program features members of the Apollo Trio with WCM Founder, flutist Judith Pearce. Pianist Marija Stroke, violinist Curtis Macomber and cellist Michael Kannen perform the Fauré Piano Trio, Opus 120, and Beethoven’s "Archduke" Piano Trio, Opus 97. In celebration of the return of her flute, Pearce offers "None But The Lonely Flute" by Milton Babbitt.
Admission is $15, $12 for senior citizens, free for students 18 and under.
The musicians of WCM have been busy coaching again this year with Monticello High School student chamber musicians, and a joint concert of the students and their coaches is planned for May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school.
WCM also presents the Early Spring Benefit at 4 p.m. on March 21, in the historic Brownstone district of Park Slope, at 531 First Street, Brooklyn. Admission is a tax deductible donation of $50. The concert features wind quartets and trios by Mozart, Debussy, Francaix and others. The Summer Gala Benefit, "Music in the Barn" is planned for June 12 at a home near Bethel. Details will be announced.
Gearing up for its annual summer season in the Catskills, WCM’s winter programs offer just a small taste of the group’s renowned summer concert series, which opens with a return of the July 4 celebration at the Liberty Museum.
The Weekend of Chamber Music summer series concerts are at 8 p.m. Saturday evenings, July 10, 17 and 24, at the Hortonville Presbyterian Church. Each is preceded on Friday night by an open rehearsal of one of the works on the program, and informal chat with the musicians.
WCM’s season is made possible in part with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts. Further information on tickets and programs is available by calling 845-932-8527 or 718-638 8962.
